HEAT TREATING

  • General Heat Treating:

    • Maximum working temperature all furnace(s) - 1900 F
    • All furnaces - digital instrumentation, thermocouple control, scalable charts & separate sensor for overtemp controls.

  • Normalize or Anneal - For treatments > 1400 F , not requiring quenching, a single part must not exceed:

    • Vertical Furnace: Length - 126" max, OD - 36" max, Weight - 1800 lbs
    • Horizontal Furn:  Length - 120" max, OD or Height - 40" max,
      Width - 70", Weight - 3500 lbs

  • Retemper, Age, Stress Relieve, Subcritical Anneal - For treatments > 1250 F but less than < 1400 F, a single part must not exceed:

    • Length - 126" max, OD - 36" max, Weight - 1900 lbs

  • Retemper, Age, Stress Relieve, Subcritical Anneal - For treatments < 1250 F, a single part must not exceed:

    • Vertical Furnace1: Length - 126" max, OD - 36" max, Weight - 2000 lbs
    • Vertical Furnace2: Length - 110" max, OD - 48" max, Weight - 2200 lbs

  • Oil Quenching - A single part must not exceed: Length - 120" max, OD - 32" max, Weight - 1500 lbs. The configuration must be such that fixturing results in a balanced and secure charge for safety purposes.

  • Water Quench - A single part must not exceed: Length - 120" max, OD - 32" max, Weight - 1800 lbs.

  • Polymer Quench - A single part must not exceed: Length - 83" max, OD - 28" max, Weight - 2000 lbs.

TESTING

  • Chemistry Samples: minimum size - 0.50" x 0.50" x 0.50"

  • Single Quadrant Rockwell Hardness: 1.00" width x 0.500" minimum thickness.
  • Full 4 Quadrant Rockwell Hardness: 1.00" thick ring

  • Longitudinal 0.505 Tensile: 1.00" x 1.00" x 4.75" minimum length.
  • Longitudinal 0.350 Tensile: 0.75" x 0.75" x 4.00" minimum length.
  • Longitudinal 0.250 Tensile: 0.50" x 0.50" x 3.00" minimum length.
  • Longitudinal Strip Tensile: 12.00" long test piece.

  • Charpy Testing: 3.00" length x 3.00" width x 0.50" minimum thickness.
  • Charpy Testing: Maximum temp = ambient , Minimum temp = -75 F (-60 C).

  • Metallographic Samples (ferrite, microstructure, photomicrographs):
    minimum size - 0.50" x 0.50" x 0.50"

  • Shear Testing: Double shear, 0.125" OD, 0.1875" OD.

  • Other standard metallurgical laboratory tests and procedures are available such as temper profiling, macroetching and other services. Please call if you have a specific requirement.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Sawcutting:

    • Production (> 6 ft) materials - 12.00" OD Maximum
    • Laboratory (< 2 ft) materials - 18.00" OD Maximum

  • Dead Weight Lifting:

    • Maximum single piece forklift weight - 8,000 lb (4 tons)
    • Maximum overhead lift weight - 10,000 lbs (5 tons)
    • Maximum pallet or container lift - 6,000 lbs (3 tons)

  • Straightening:

    • Maximum OD = 10.0" ; Maximum section size depends on
      material's mechanical properties.

  • On Location Services:

    • Brinell testing to 12.5" OD Maximum
    • Portable Rockwell 'C' testing to 6.0" OD Maximum
    • Telebrineller or Newage Pin Brinell hardness testing.
    • Weld capping of tubing, tally, serialization or visual material inspection.
    • Leasing of Brinells and small straightener (call for details).
